Brig (rtd) Mirza Irshad Ali

Here is a brief account of me as an old and a very fortunate old student of Talim-ul-Islam College Rabwah. After passing Matriculation examination from T I High School Rabwah in 1957 I joined T I College Rabwah the same year as a first year student of F SC pre-medical group. There we had angel faced teachers like Prof Habibullah Khan, Prof M. A. Atif, Prof Nasir A Bashir, Prof Rafique A Saqib, Hazrat Maulana Abual Ata Jalandhari Sahib and many many more, After passing the FSc exam in 1959, I got admission in Liaquat Medical College Jamshoro in1960. I passed the M B B S exam in 1965 and I got commission in Pakistan Army in Army Medical Corps in November 1965. I served in Army and also in Pakistan Navy in different capacities at Hyderabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Kharian, Karachi, Kohat and Skardu.
On my last appointment as Assistant Commandant Armed Forces Medical Rawalpindi I was promoted to the rank of Brigadier in 1991 from where I retired on Nov 1993.
During 1971 war I was in Pak Navy serving on board P N S Khaibar - a Battle class Destroyer ship which was sunk during a combat operation about 65/70 miles away from Karachi. We lost most of the men on board-only about 50 of us survived out of 275.The survivors were rescued after we spent more then 20 hours floating in the sea.
In 1990 I took an emergency field hospital and a team of doctors on behalf of Army to Iran to look after the casualties as a result of a massive earthquake resulting in more than 20000 casualties. We worked mostly in north of Iran in an area of District Rodbar. ________________
